LWL Roman Museum

Weseler Straße 100, 45721 Haltern am See
Museum/Exhibition

The Romans have left clear traces in Haltern am See and the surrounding area. At the time of Emperor Augustus, Haltern was considered an important military camp with numerous important facilities. During the search for traces, the researchers were already able to trace a main camp and the camp suburb and thus draw important conclusions about the way of life of the Romans. The location on the Lippe and the proximity to Germania are the reasons for the camp's important strategic position. It is no coincidence that Haltern played an important role in the famous Varus Battle.

The museum shows vividly and in a modern way how the Romans went about their daily lives and how world history was written at the same time. The exhibits invite visitors to participate and marvel. The Aliso Roman construction site at the back of the museum is worth a special visit.
