The local history museum is one of four locations of the Emschertal Museum.
Welcome to the Unser Fritz museum of local history - a unique museum in the Ruhr region that brings the social history of Herne and Wanne-Eickel to life in an impressive way. In the exciting permanent exhibition "Heart Chamber", the focus is not only on objects, but also on the everyday stories of the people of the time. A special highlight is the opportunity to participate interactively: In the art nouveau drugstore Kleffmann, visitors can take a look behind the historical scenes themselves and thus become part of the exhibition.
This interactive approach runs throughout the entire museum, which presents unique artefacts such as Jürgen von Manger's Golden Record, true to the motto 'Join in instead of just watching'. A historical classroom also provides vivid insights into the teaching methods of more than 100 years ago and invites visitors to reflect and marvel.
A highlight typical of the Ruhr region awaits visitors in the outdoor area: crowned by the statue of Fortuna, the goddess of luck, the traditional "Bude" is a special piece of jewellery that perfectly embodies the urban charm of the region.
The Emschertal Museum is a place for explorers, cultural experts and anyone who wants to experience the history of the Ruhr region in a new, dynamic way. It uniquely combines historical relevance with a modern experience factor and is not only an ideal excursion destination for schools and families, but also opens its doors to groups of curious cultural travellers.
